Since the 90’s custodians of Cumberland County have been made to get CDLs or face unemployment. They’re still expected to get their custodial work done properly within half the time the assigned areas would need to meet expectations. They’ve made the pay the same (or nearly so) across the board whether you’ve been here for years or are a newcomer. Second in Command does not get you an increase in pay despite being a supervisor position where you are entrusted with a passcode for the school security. Many custodians are out of work during the summer as well as there are only a select positions that’s stretch all through summer. Cumberland county is constantly short staffed with custodian crews and bus drivers yet will fire a custodian if they cannot pass a CDL leaving extra work load on the crew that is left with no extra pay for doing double and sometimes triple the work. Cumberland county is the only county in the surrounding area that struggles to keep custodians employed  and fairly paid.
