As a certified Remedial Massage Therapist, specializing in variety of modalities including pregnancy massage, lymphatic drainage, and sports massage, I am using my skills and knowledge to contribute to the health and well-being of my clients. Despite the thorough and hands-on nature of our work, often allowing for more healing time than traditional methods, Remedial Massage Therapists are not recognized on the same level as physiotherapists. This discrepancy results in a lack of access to funding and an inability for our clients to seek Medicare support from us.

This is not only a personal issue, but it affects all Remedial Massage Therapists who have undergone rigorous training and education to earn their qualifications. We are as competent and capable as any other healthcare providers and deserve recognition as such. Currently, only health fund rebates are available for our clients, limiting the accessibility of our services to those who could potentially benefit the most. For a society that is continuously evolving in its health and wellness perspectives, this outdated viewpoint needs to change.

We are focal components in the healthcare system, just like any other healthcare providers, and should be treated as such. This includes access to the same funding, health funds, and Medicare opportunities as physiotherapists.
