Grant Equal Access Booking for Pickleball at the MARC Bubble
The Issue
Please join the initiative to lobby for side-by-side tennis and pickleball play on a first-come first-served basis during all available open-play time in the PC MARC bubble. This is a municipal facility that needs to respond to the growing demand for pickleball on a shared basis for indoor court time.
As it stands, tennis has exclusive use of all 4 courts in the main building, and they also get the vast majority of court booking opportunities in the bubble. Pickleball is relegated to booking off-hours and a small fraction of the overall time.
The underlying problem here is the MARC will not allow any pickleball to be played in the bubble facility while any tennis is being played. What that means is IF 2 tennis players want to play on one tennis court for 2 hours, then NO Pickleball can be played on any of the remaining 4 pickleball courts (courts are multi-use - 3 tennis, 6 pickleball or a combination). As pickleball is typically played in doubles, that means 16 pickleball people can’t enjoy this Public facility because 2 tennis players are enjoying their sport.
The inequity here needs to be corrected and begs the question: Why can’t pickleball and tennis be played side-by-side on a first-come first-served basis, just like it is in Public (and private) facilities all over the country? That answer is simple, everybody should be allowed access to these times, independent of which paddle they prefer. The revenue becomes maximized, more citizens enjoy the games they love and the facilities are put to their best Public good, just like they were designed to be.
Please join us in supporting shared use of the PC MARC bubble by signing this petition. No donations, please share and make a comment as to whether you play pickleball, tennis, both or neither and your zip code.
