Grant Early Release for Rehabilitated Inmate
The Issue
- My beloved family member has dutifully served his time in the prison system following the law, realizing his mistakes and wholeheartedly dedicating his life towards rehabilitation and societal contribution.
Despite the occasional portrayal of prisons as a place of reform, the time to truly reconsider their role is now. It is an undeniable fact, as per The Sentencing Project, that longer prison sentences do not equate to decreased crime rates, but often lead to increased recidivism (1).
My family member, like many others, is trapped in a punitive environment when he should be reentering society ameliorated and ready to take productive part in our shared community-life.
Therefore, we appeal to your sense of justice, empathy, and shared belief in second chances to help us set this right. Every single signature is a step towards not only restoring a life that has the potential for great change, but also towards reforming an outdated system that perpetuates punitive justice for its own sake, instead of reform.
