Hello,
Last week a friendly midwife sent us this picture with the message- Thank you! New air con being installed in Templar today.
4 months ago we were told on a maternity voices call by a non-executive at Homerton not to hold our breath for budget or waste our time starting a petition, with the purpose of improving the conditions of the post natal ward. I don’t think he realised who he was dealing with.
Collectively we raised our voices through this petition which attracted attention in the press; The Times, Telegraph, Daily Mail and ITV News.
For over a decade women had been complaining about the sub-standard conditions of the post-natal ward, in particular the temperature.
This is a great win and something that made us smile to know we have made a difference to those who will be on the ward with their newborns going forward.
Thank you to all of you that signed and supported this campaign.
We know the state of maternity in Hackney and this country is still not where it needs to be but we will continue to lobby, petition and raise our voices for change.
Follow us at Birth Rights Hackney and also give Delivering Better a follow to support the work they are doing to put this on the top of Wes Streeting’s agenda.
In the words of Emmeline Pankhurst
‘Never underestimate the power we women have to define our own destinies.’
