Grant David Decker Permission to Pursue Homeschooling Over Public Education
The Issue
I had worked extremely hard in my educational career, with many things coming natural. However, this story has a much deeper side to it. Because of stresses directly originating from the lack of importance and involvement from school, motivation is minimal. It is proven that it is not a student problem, as it is instead the student criticizing the curriculum rather than the parents or the school. I spend much of my free time playing pickleball, debating, and helping others within my community, and my limitations are reached as a result of school. I wish to grow my business and continue expanding as to hopefully join the Pro Pickleball Tour. A heart of gold is molded by its surroundings, however; gold can only be molded when it is warm, not when it is cold. To my heart and mind, it is cold when the clock ticks by when I know people could be getting helped but instead time is being wasted sitting in a room, on my phone, with nothing to do as the same concepts are repeated day by day with no change in school. Does this sound like a pleasant place of education? As an adult we knowingly wish not to waste time, as we have one goal and that is to provide for our families. If our children are not learning to provide, than what good are we to ourselves and what are we working for? Help me, and the many who can be inspired by this that may assist in spreading the awareness of the dangers of our education system regarding anxiety, time, and actual education. I give my prayers and thanks to those who give their support.
Continuing on with the reasoning, I would like to break down the effects of traditional schooling that I have experienced. I had a rather rough upcoming in life in which I will not go in to further detail. I had to grow up fast, and school was once my place where I can confide in. However, times are changing now, and I have grown myself as a person that can already contribute to society despite my youthful nature. The anxiety and seemingly depressive mindsets that I experience at school are not truly anxiety symptoms per say, but rather disappointment. I am disappointed in myself that I put so much time into courses that are simply so lack luster, easy, and give no true gain to myself. If I had the power to reform the whole curriculum, I very well would. Furthering such, for those who are unaware I was diagnosed with two different stomach conditions that affect me and are really just triggered whenever I get stressed. When you put two together and truly break it down, stress causes me issues, and what is the cause of my stress? Wasting my time on things that I have already once taught myself, and sitting on whatever devices to pass the time when I have all of my work done a week early. As a person I feel that I almost must be sheltered as the common day citizens glorify the school system, but maybe it is time to realize that the people in it have a lot more to say than the spectators.
To finish, this is not a plea of someone who "oh school is boring, school is dumb," this is the plea of someone who has proven to the community that he is capable of helping others, communicating, learning, and sharing words of wisdom despite his age without the assistance of wasteful "enterprise of learning" that truly is not teaching me to the point of benefit.
Finishing this note, current environments restrict my desire to indulge in homeschooling. Many around me refuse to give him such endorsement, and approval from others will assist in easing the conscience. By investing faith in my decision, we are, in essence, demonstrating our commitment to student-specific and holistic education that cherishes the individuality of every learner. Please sign this petition and join us in our endeavor to open up doors to diversified educational methods. Every signature brings us a step closer to making this a reality for me and many others like myself.
