Dear Supporters, 

It has been a long time since I last posted on this petition. At the time, I had thought that I would write a few updates about the justice system generally, including juvenile justice. I did not do those updates, mainly because I wanted to avoid saying anything that would adversely affect Zaiden Guy's case but also because I did want to fill your inbox with information you did not sign up for. 

Yesterday, Zaiden pleaded guilty to four charges: murder, robbery, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and theft. One of the goals of this petition had been to see the number of charges reduced because there were originally six charges, several of them redundant. When a prosecutor seeks redundant charges, usually the prosecutor is aiming for a higher sentence. I am closing this petition today. However, as I do so, I will suggest that there is still one thing you can do. Zaiden's sentencing hearing will occur on May 20th. Consider sending an email to the Grant County Prosecutor Scott Hunt at shunt@grantcounty.net, asking him to consider Zaiden's juvenile status as he makes a sentencing recommendation to the judge. When you write to Mr. Hunt, please do so respectfully.
