Grant compassionate release for Johnathon Luesing

Grant compassionate release for Johnathon Luesing
The Issue
My twin brother, Johnathon Luesing, made a regrettable decision at the tender age of 18. This decision has resulted in him serving a life sentence plus fifteen years in the Florida State Penitentiary. Now, 22 years into his sentence, he is no longer the adolescent who made that mistake. Instead, he has spent these years paying for his crime, taking every opportunity to better himself, and facing unimaginable hardships while incarcerated. To add to his suffering, Johnathon now battles stomach cancer, a condition for which the prison's medical facilities are grossly inadequate.
This situation is made more unbearable by the fact that he was not alone in his mistake. He had three other codefendants. Of them, two have been released many years ago, leaving only two facing much longer sentences. This disproportionate punishment highlights a severe miscarriage of justice.
The crime was the same for all four involved but the punishment for all involved was not equally spread so why is he still incarcerated while the others are freely walking around in society. They said fair trial and equal rights but there is nothing fair or equal with the punishments handed down, all stemming from an incident where a man attempted to rob them. This experience, although wrong, was a direct consequence of fear and youthful recklessness, something neither he nor we, his family, could have foreseen having such enduring and devastating consequences.
Johnathon deserves a second chance, especially now when his health is rapidly deteriorating. Incarceration should not mean a death sentence due to inadequate healthcare and the lack of compassion for those seeking redemption. Johnathon has shown that he is indeed remorseful and has made significant strides to reform during his time behind bars.
We are calling upon the authorities, particularly the Florida State Penitentiary and the relevant judicial systems, to grant Johnathon compassionate release. A release that would allow him the dignity of battling his illness with the necessary medical support and surrounded by loved ones, rather than behind cold prison bars.
Please join us in urging the compassionate release of Johnathon Luesing. Your signature can greatly impact his chance for freedom and access to adequate medical care. Let us come together to correct this miscarriage of justice and offer a man a chance to live his remaining days with dignity. Sign this petition and help make a difference in Johnathon's life.
