The Issue

I have been incarcerated for over 28 years, entering prison when I was just 18 years old. Now, at 47, I am earnestly seeking clemency to allow me a second chance at life. My story is one of regret, growth, and transformation. Over the years, I've worked tirelessly to contribute positively from within the confines of prison. I've served as a law library aide for the past 25 years, where I've helped countless individuals navigate their legal challenges. Mentorship has also been a significant part of my rebuilding. I've guided and supported fellow inmates, using my experience and knowledge to encourage change and growth. This has been my way of giving back, even while I remain in confinement. Even amid the harsh realities of prison life, I have embraced every opportunity for self-improvement and rehabilitation. Through educational programs and skill-building workshops, I have endeavored to better myself, hoping to one day apply these lessons and skills in society. Statistics reveal that over 95% of all prisoners will eventually be released; providing them with the necessary tools to reintegrate into society is paramount. According to a 2018 report by the National Institute of Justice, participating in educational programs can reduce recidivism rates by 43%. I am confident in my ability to be part of this positive statistic if granted clemency. My plea is not just about seeking freedom but also about the possibility of continuing the work that I've started inside prison on the outside. The skills and experiences I have gained could empower me to make meaningful contributions to society, fostering change and providing mentorship to those who need it. Please join me in calling for a commutation of my life sentence, allowing me to earn a second chance to prove that change is possible and redemption is attainable. Your signature can help advocate for my release, underscoring the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to right their wrongs and start anew. Please sign this petition and stand for the transformative power of second chances.
