Dear concerned citizen,
Thank you for your support in raising awareness for Robin “Rocky” Myers. We are thrilled to have 750 signatures on our petition. We are working diligently to organize the best clemency case to present to Gov. Bentley. We believe that public awareness will assist us in our best chance to gain clemency for Mr. Myers.
There are many reasons to oppose the death penalty for Mr. Myers, but here are three:
1) As many of you know, in 1994 Mr. Myers was sentenced by a jury in a 9-3 vote, with the recommendation of a life in prison. An elected judge overrode the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Mr. Myers to the death penalty. (In January, the Supreme Court ruled that such judicial override is unconstitutional. However, the state of Alabama is moving ahead with Mr. Myers’ case.)
2) The Supreme Court has ruled that executing a person with "mental retardation" now termed "intellectual disability" is unconstitutional. Mr. Myers is intellectually disabled as evidenced by low IQ scores and deficits in adaptive functioning. During his schooling, he was in EMR (educable mentally retarded) classes.
3) There is solid evidence that suggests that Mr. Myers is innocent. Please watch the video at the attached link to learn more.
We are asking each person who has signed the petition to consider asking other people to consider signing the petition. Our goal is for each of you to find five other people to sign the petition. Mr. Myers has not had many advocates in his life. Please consider being one today.
Thanks again for your support.
