Grant Citizenship To Long-Term Residents From Childhood

The Issue

My dear family member has been living in the United States since she was just 2 years old. Her entire identity, her dreams, her friends, and her future are all here. Despite being an integral part of her community, she lives with the constant fear and anxiety that one day she could be deported to a country she does not remember, a place that is entirely foreign to her.

She is just one of many who have grown up in the United States, contributing positively to the society and economy. These individuals, often referred to as "Dreamers," are an essential part of the American fabric. Many have pursued education, work legally, and pay taxes. Yet, their future remains uncertain due to the complexity of current immigration laws.

The United States prides itself on being a nation of immigrants and a land of opportunity. To deny these individuals citizenship, is to deny American values. According to the Migration Policy Institute, there are approximately 3.6 million Dreamers who arrived before their 18th birthday. Giving these individuals a path to citizenship is not only fair but necessary.

With humane and realistic policy changes, a structured path to citizenship for these long-term residents can be crafted. We call on lawmakers to enact legislation that offers Washington’s bright, promising Dreamers security and recognition as part of the society to which they already belong.

By signing this petition, we appeal for justice and compassion. Demand a path to citizenship for those who know no other home but the USA. Stand with us in urging our leaders to take action now.
