Grant Chickens in Laurelville

The Issue

This petition is in regards to the current Laurelville Village ordinance banning livestock within the village.

This ordinance is an “all or nothing” and I find it unfair to punish those of us who can not afford 3 acres or more and have the sense to maintain our animals within reasonable, safe and sanitary conditions.

I personally have 10 chickens for which I have an ESA accommodation for and I have learned that there are many others in the community that have some type of livestock. We live in a rural community built on farming. There are bound to be people who have animals for not only medical conditions but as a food safety net. I have been threatened with a citation since I refuse to surrender my birds. Personally I think the government has intruded enough into our lives even at the local level and we should not be punished for a few who had no common sense.

I am hoping that by a show of hands that we can persuade the village council to reconsider the current ordinance as is and change it to make it more fair.
