GRANT better facilities /community for our fur-babies & START listening to our concerns
The issue
We are a strong dog community in Southbank that is growing stronger each day. This is our home & our community. So, we are standing together to get the genuine attention of the Council to take into consideration our serious on-going concerns & bring a change to our existing situations for our furbabies. We are a diverse group of individuals, from varied ethnicities, age groups, cultures for whom our dogs are our children & family. They’re no less than human children & we are committed to giving them a better place to experience their day to day socialising & walks which is the only time they step out.
The major part of the day they’re locked in our apartments with we all being working parents so on an average we step out only for a couple of hours in the entire day to give them the fresh air. And during that time if we face poor conditions at the off leash dog park, which is not even usable, then we are forced to take them to whichever nearest park that is available- boyd, Melbourne square etc. and when we do so, we get told off by the council. Despite constant complaints from varied dog owners, the council doesn’t pay heed to taking any action & we are a witness to it all. Council members & animal mgt team do their rounds, hear our feedback - but all in vain! If you wouldn’t do anything, then why ask!?
Ths condition of the off leash dog park provided to us by the council is so poorly maintained & built - attachments show the evidence of this.
The structural fixing is a must in the off leash park to even consider using it. The water leaks from the bridge above & the puddles collect in the park & it’s unhygienic & stinks.
Some people leave their dog poos in the park & don’t clean after - which is so disappointing.
the lose dust flies around when dogs run around and it makes them dirty & we all sniff dust through that time which is detrimental to all our healths. There’s no grass at all - which is a basic amenity for dogs.
The space is so little that with a few big & small dogs, there’s barely place to even move around, leave aside dogs wanting to run & exercise.
We all are committed to making a change for our furbabies because this is our home & we are here to stay & make a difference!
if the council is taking away space & building constructions & taking away our rights to access better healthy facilities, then reduce our council rates!
you’ll don’t hear us, you’ll don’t respond to us with action & you’ll don’t make our lives better - which is your duty & just keep charging us - not fair at all! So we are submitting this petition in the quest to make you’ll take us seriously - it’s high time you did!
