Banbury town centre businesses have noticed a reduction in footfall and shoppers over the years, as shoppers go to the two out of town retail parks, and use each of the major out of town supermarkets. 
One reason for this is that these places all offer unlimited free parking, whereas there is no element of free parking in the town centre until after 6pm. 
We are asking Cherwell District Council to give their car parks in Banbury town centre one hour free to encourage more people to use the car parks and visit the businesses again. 
We believe that by offering one hour free parking, the car parks will see an upturn in usage and bring more footfall to the town. This in turn will increase the sales of the existing businesses, and see more investment in the town from new businesses wanting to open there. It will make Banbury more of a destination, and see more people enjoying the newer aspects of the canal side redevelopment, as well as the historic old town area.
