My son was stabbed outside our home. Help us commemorate him with a plaque
The issue
My son Balin Stewart, a much-loved 16-year-old, was fatally stabbed outside our home in Buddina, Queensland, on January 20, 2022. Despite our efforts to revive him, emergency staff declared the wound not survivable.
The #BinTheBladeForBalin movement aims to encourage knife owners to dispose of their knives, which can prevent potential harm. We also want to educate young people about the consequences of violence and its ripple effect on families, friends, and their future.
This petition aims to demonstrate community support for installing a small sandstone structure with a plaque to remember Balin Stewart in front of his memorial chair in Buddina.
This location will serve as a place for the community members to reflect, remember, and heal from the tragic loss of Balin while also raising awareness of the #BinTheBladeForBalin movement and youth knife crime.
We are making an application for this memorial to Sunshine Coast Council as an organisation that contributes to the community. We actively deliver education resources for teens, youths, parents, carers, teachers, and other community members aimed at harm prevention of injury and death due to incidents involving “edged weapons” such as knives. By signing this petition, you are helping us demonstrate community support for this memorial.
