As a working single mother residing in Oscar James Residences at Hunters Point Shipyard, San Francisco, the current school bus pick up location for my child attending the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is inadequate. The designated bus stop is seven blocks away from our new apartment in Block 52 of Hunters Point Shipyard. This has created a significant challenge in ensuring my child gets to school safely and on time, which is an unnecessary burden on many families in this community.

Given the expansion and development of our residential area, it is understandable that adjustments have not yet been fully implemented. However, the distance to the current bus pick up point is not only inconvenient but can potentially compromise the timeliness and education of our children. For many parents, especially single guardians juggling work and family responsibilities, this extra distance is unmanageable.

The Hunters Point community includes various families with young school-going children who face similar challenges. There is an urgent need for the SFUSD and the relevant transportation authorities to accommodate the growing population in this new development. An amendment to the existing transportation arrangement to include a closer bus pick up location would greatly alleviate the daily difficulties faced by numerous families in our community.

By granting more accessible transportation options, SFUSD will not only cater to the chronic absenteeism but also ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities for education to all its students, regardless of their residential changes. Adjusting the pick up location into the neighborhood could foster a sense of community integration and significantly improve the daily lives of many families.

I urge the SFUSD and concerned authorities to promptly act by reviewing and amending the current transportation route. This change is crucial to ensure that all children have a safe, reliable, and convenient way to access their education. Let us come together to push for a more accommodating and supportive environment for all.
