Keep trash pickup in the alleys
The Issue
We have a new trash service and everything was fine, they operated much like the old one. But are they really cheaper?
They, the trash service, expects the residents to haul their trash cans to the curb in front of their house. Curbs, that, in half of the city are lined by vehicles. The trucks wouldn't be able to reach half the trash cans. This city gets a lot of wind and trash cans knocked over in the streets will cause a lot of problems that did not exist before. Can you imagine trying to get to work only to have your way blocked by a slow moving trash truck or a trash can that got blown over?
Our streets were not made for stop and go traffic, it tears them up. Our alleys, on the other hand, were. Underneath our city streets lay water pipes. If our streets are being torn up, can you imagine what it will do to the water pipes? Pipes will degrade causing problems with water delivery. Not a good outcome, also an expensive one.
A lot of this community is made up of narrow streets, which are lined with cars (just a lawsuit waiting to happen), older people, who are not able to move the cans especially that distance, people with jobs, who are not able to bring the cans in until they get home and bus routes (both city and school). Not to mention emergency vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks and police. This does not even take into account what an eyesore it would be. Not to mention it's not very hygenic.
To make a long story short, this is not a viable option. What is? Keeping our trash pickup in the alleys.
Thank you for taking the time to read and take into account the problems and expense this would cause.
