The wait is over. Two distinct options for updating Fire Station No. 7 will be revealed during a City Council Meeting on August 6. One destroys the landmark building. The other saves it, adding new sections. For council members, the choice couldn’t be starker. This vote will demonstrate whether or not Roanoke City values nationally recognized historic structures.
Remember, Fire Station No. 7 was listed on Preservation Virginia's “most endangered” list and is named on the National Register of Historic Places. Advocates across the state and nation will be watching.
If you're local, mark your calendar now—August 6 at either 9:00 AM or 2:00 PM in the Roanoke City Council Chambers, inside the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building, 215 Church Avenue, Room 450. We’ll let you know the exact time once council agendas are finalized, but it’s critical that history lovers like you attend this important meeting.
Not in the Roanoke area? You can still help. Please use our template to email the city’s leaders. It's quick, easy, and tells them that people like you visit because of historic buildings: http://therevivalist.info/firestation7
Together, we will show the council that historic buildings are more than “structures.” They’re part of our heritage and economic assets. They help make Roanoke the kind of place people want to live, work, and play. And, starting with Fire Station No. 7, they must be saved!
