Actualización de la peticiónPrevent Student Suicide: Install Netting on the "Little Mac" BridgeOur fight is far from over

Today Reagan and I met with one of the student senators that brought about the legislation surrounding suicide prevention at Grand Valley.  While things are looking good, he explained that the installation of safety netting on the bridge is not guaranteed at this point; the legislation will have to go through the University Academic Senate as well (they are meeting next on April 8th).  Meanwhile, the university is going through a process called structural analysis, which entails evaluating designs, costs, and what type of barrier will be the most effective.  In addition, President Mantella (and/or potentially the Board of Trustees) will have to sign off on the plans.

This is no cause for lost hope, however!  There are many faculty members and administrators who are on our side, and the issue is being taken very seriously by the university as a whole.  Additionally, the founder/executive director of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan has taken notice of and supports our cause; more on that as I continue to communicate with her.

Reagan and I are ready to face the fight ahead, and we trust that you are too.  When people like you and I come together, real change is possible.  Thank you so much for your continued support of our cause; we can't do it without you.
