The Issue

I am writing to express my concern regarding the current condition of the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) parking lot situated at the corner of Summer Street and College Street in Halifax. This parking area serves a vital function for many health workers who dedicate their time and efforts to providing essential care to our community. However, the state of this parking lot does not align with the standards of safety that should be afforded to these dedicated individuals.

The parking lot is plagued with large potholes that fill with water and ice during colder months, posing severe risks of slip and fall incidents. This is particularly concerning for our hardworking health professionals who start and end their day navigating these treacherous conditions. Moreover, these potholes can inflict damage to vehicles, leading to unnecessary personal costs for those who already endure long hours of service.

Erratic parking exacerbates these dangers, with vehicles often parked in unauthorized "no parking" zones, further contributing to the unsafe maneuvering that clogs the lot. This chaos endangers both drivers and pedestrians as they navigate their way to their shifts.

To address these issues, we urge the responsible authorities to undertake immediate action by grading and paving the NSHA parking lot. This will not only smooth out the dangerous potholes but also allow for the painting of designated parking spots to provide clear guidelines for appropriate parking areas. Furthermore, consistent enforcement against parking outside of these designated zones will ensure the lot remains orderly and safe for everyone.

Sign this petition to demand that our local authorities take meaningful steps to improve the NSHA parking lot. Together, we can ensure a safer and more respectful environment for our valued health care workers.
