Today the government announced a £250m winter rescue package for GP surgeries so they can take on temporary staff. Most importantly, GPs in England are being told to see more patients face to face as still only 58% of patients were seen in August (when all restrictions were lifted) compared to 80% before the pandemic.
GP surgeries will be named in league tables if they are judged to have failed to provide an appropriate level of "access".
Thank you so much for adding your names to this petition which has shown how strongly people feel about this issue. Thank you to those who shared it and those who went further by emailing their MPs. I believe we have all contributed to the government’s decision.
However I will continue to monitor this situation and raise it again if this new initiative doesn’t seem to have had a significant impact.
Thank you again!
