Oolampara mental health hospital, Thiruvanthapuram.In one cell there are 30 patients.10 have beds,the remainder are lying on the floor.The hospital has a capacity for 550 patients.50 to 60 patients are occupying 15 bedded space.Those with severe illness are not being taken care of and their infighting too cannot be controlled due to lack of staff.Where 19 psychiatrists and 2 general medical officers are needed,only 2 psychologists are available.And these 2 psychologists are conducting the heavy OPDs which is not correct. Only 20 nurses are available for 550 patients. Many patients who have been cured have not gone back home because they have been turned down by their family.
