I myself have been under treatment for depression for long and also spent a year in a rehab center.Lost my job,house,property,wife to depression.India spends only 33 paise per psychiatry patient.Only 0.05% of health care budget goes to psychiatry.And out of the 40 or 50 crores that it gets only 5 crores are utilised. Only 1.490 beds per 10,000 psyche patient in mental hospitals and just 0.823 beds per 10,000 psyche patients in General hospital. Total morbidity of patients varies from 58.2/1000 to 73/1000 patients and unfortunately they come under the younger age groups from 15-45 years. We have a shortage of 18,000 psychiatrists in India. Between 2012 to 2030,it's estimated that our economic loss due to mental health crisis will be more than 1 trillion dollars. Little importance given to rehabilitation. Only drug therapy is given importance. People supporting me are avoiding me due to my depression because I may become a liability to them. My sister has already commited suicide. My mother died prematurely due to my unemployment,arising out of depression. To give Mental health equal priority as any other health issues, please sign my petition and sensitize our society.
