End the British Virgin Islands' killing of endangered sea turtles

End the British Virgin Islands' killing of endangered sea turtles

The Issue

Every year from December 1st to March 31st the British Virgin Islands government in the Caribbean allows the killing of endangered Caribbean green sea turtles and critically endangered Caribbean hawksbill sea turtles.

Those two species are at 7% and 5% of their historic population levels. If these two vitally important species are to survive, we simply cannot afford the killing of sea turtles.

Signing this petition will deliver a message to the Governor and the British Virgin Islands Tourism Board that this attitude toward these species cannot continue. Sea turtles are the canary in coal mine and the archaic thinking is not only detrimental to the British Virgin Islands but the other islands where these turtles are born. This behavior is overall detrimental to the recovery of sea turtles in the Caribbean.

The solution? The complete protection of sea turtles in the British Virgin Islands. Sea turtles are protected 8/12 months but need complete protection.
