22 April 2021

Dear all

Today is the day we celebrate the Stephen Lawrence family's fight for justice, a fight that continues.

Last year, on 5 April 2020, Belly Mujinga died of covid having been assaulted by a white male who allegedly said he had the covid virus.  Given her health conditions, she should not have been working on the concourse at Victoria Station that day without adequate PPE (or at all, as she was not rostered to work outside on 21 March 2020).

The Mujinga family continue to fight for justice. Like the Stephen Lawrence family that fight will soon enter the courts and we are raising a litigation fund to that end.

The Lawrence family took on the Metropolitan Police and sought the criminal responsible for his death. In the end the police were found to be "institutionally racist". The private prosecution failed and the civil claim was settled.

We will be challenging the British Transport Police and we will seek the perpetrator's name so that we can sue him and also consider a private prosecution. We will then begin the civil claims against the employer, Govia Thameslink Railway.
