Belly’s family are still waiting for answers:
- Why did her employer Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) place Belly on frontline duties, without PPE, when she was known to have underlying health problems that put her at greater risk of Coronavirus?
- Why didn’t GTR report the incident to the police? They claimed this was because they were unaware it was a ‘spitting incident’, or covid coughing incident, but a later public statement from GTR contradicts this and suggests they were aware of the nature of the assault.
- Why did the British Transport Police ("BTP") accept the assailant's story that the coughing was "involuntary" and he was in a hurry, when in fact he assaulted them and then returned to do on a second occasion?
- Why did BTP accept the assailant's account when he gave no credible explanation for his hostility towards and his harassment of the two female black African staff, noting that an Asian male employee nearby was not so assaulted?
- Why did the Crown Prosecution Service rule that no charges would be brought against the man who assaulted Belly, based on the results from an antibody test, which experts agree are unreliable and which were new to the market at the time?
· Why did GTR release two versions of their internal investigation into Belly’s death? One which was sent to Belly’s union, the Transport Salaries Staffs’ Association (TSSA), where they admitted they were aware of Belly’s underlying health conditions, and another public version of the report, where they claimed they weren’t?
