Petition updateJustice for Belly Mujinga.Update

Dear all

By way of update, Lusamba (Belly's widower) has returned from his visit to Congo to comfort Belly's mother, who had taken the death of Belly very hard, and in her grief would not leave her bed.

I met with Lusamba on Friday after his period of quarantine had ended. He and their daughter are preparing for their first Xmas without Belly.

The family remain focused on achieving justice for Belly.

With 5 December 2020 being the eight month anniversary of Belly's death, we await the coroner's decision as to whether there will be an Inquest into her tragic death. The Sec of State for Transport has communicated that he is awaiting the decision of the coroner before considering our request for a broader public inquiry.

We have asked the British Transport Police to disclose the name of the white male who allegedly assaulted Belly on 23 March 2020. They are considering our request and are due to respond to us next week. If anyone has any information as to his identity please contact me at lawrencedavies@equaljustice.co.uk or at my linkedin site (Lawrence Davies LLM) or by direct message at twitter @LDaviesEJ

Once he is identified we are to sue him for assault and harassment in the County Court, and also consider a private prosecution if the CPS do not overturn the BTP original decision not to prosecute. We will begin fund-raising for that legal action next month.

Some people say the white male perpetrator is being protected by the police due to his position in society or his connections. These are just rumours though. At present, we have no idea as to his identity other than he is a 57 year old white male, he walks in a square shouldered, erect manner (so possibly public school or quasi-military training), is 5ft 10 or above, very broad shouldered, wore a smart parker style brown jacket, jeans and trainers, and shouted (and coughed/spat) and pointed at Belly and Motolani outside Victoria Station concourse (outside the ticket office) on 23 March 2020 at about 11.20am. You may have heard or seen something. His workplace organised a covid antibody test on 25 March 2020. If you had an antibody covid test that day at a private London lab please let me know.

We are hoping to arrange an online conference in December 2020 to provide a full update.

Please continue to support the petition. We are targeting 3 million.

The petition is now also part of change.org's excellent 5 million anti-racism petition signatures campaign, said to be the world's largest anti-racism campaign. There was media on that earlier this month.

Be well, and stay safe,

Lawrence Davies
