PA Salons Unite
The Issue
Salons and Licensed Professionals Band Together, Stand Together Safely. Don’t Cut Us Out—PA salons join forces to call for the safe reopening of salons.
Governor Wolf, we urge you to not delay this any further. The COVID-19 crisis is not to be taken lightly, and we are grateful for those on the front lines. But, we need to immediately address the needs of our small businesses. We’re not asking for handouts, we want to open!
We can responsibly open our salons, and ask that you implement a plan similar to those already launched in other states to reopen salons, in careful and monitored phases under requirements that social distancing be maintained.
Salons are in the business of cleanliness, and a heavily regulated industry. We sterilize everything, all the time. Every stylist has gone to school, placing an extreme emphasis on sanitation. Stylists are educated on how to handle certain situations to prevent the spread of diseases, viruses, fungus and more. We have very strict standards to begin with, and will go through extra measures to ensure customer safety. We can safely service one client at a time while wearing a mask and gloves, and with the proper sanitation and precautions, we pose no more of a threat of spreading the virus than those businesses deemed essential.
Every day that the salons are closed, people’s livelihoods are being taken away. A lot of small business owners are being put out of business by this, after putting everything they have into these shops. We want to support our employees so that they can feed their families and pay their rent and mortgages.
And put simply, people want to get their hair done! The beauty industry in Pennsylvania is receiving tremendous pressure from clients to have services performed, and many would receive the service in another location outside of the salon, which would not be COVID-19 regulated. Beyond the need for the service, stylists and beauty professionals have established relationships with their clients, which greatly improves clients’ mental health and state of mind when visiting salons. People want to get back to work and back to some semblance of normalcy.
We need to begin the process of implementing reforms that will return economic prosperity to our small businesses. We can perform services following the requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology and what is necessary for consumer safety considering COVID-19. We are asking and need your support for the 100,000 beauty professionals and the consumers in Pennsylvania.
Support our requests by signing this petition to show Governor Wolf that we are ready for our salons to open in the state of Pennsylvania.
