I am a swimmer of over 11 years. It has been such an awkward time not having been in the water. However, I do believe that the sport of swimming can be conducted safely in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In clinical trials, Dr. Roberta Lavin said “The good news is that the average amount of chlorine that’s in a pool is going to kill the virus.” Later in the article, Dr. Lavin went further to say “I think of all the things you could do, swimming is probably safer than most activities.” Of course, some precautionary measures must be made, such as limiting the amount of people that can be at practice and deep sanitation. But I do believe that the sport of swimming can be conducted at this time.

Not being able to swim has affected the lives of every swimmer in Michigan. It is not often that a year round swimmer is forced to take 2 months off. If we do not train this summer, it will greatly affect our performance in the upcoming season and college. 

Therefore, I ask you to sign this petition to reopen polls and I ask you, Governor, to take this into consideration.
