Many dental offices are fighting to fully reopen in Michigan. Dental hygienists are one of the top occupations at high risk of contracting COVID-19. There are many hygienists who would rather be safe at home for a few weeks longer. May 28th is the suggested date for offices in Michigan to reopen. Many of us are scared to return to work in addition to being scared to say so. With this petition we are asking that if dental offices are able to open for non emergent dental procedures that hygiene appointments be put on hold for a while longer to keep us safe. Dental hygiene is a very important aspect of dentistry. No one is saying that it is not, but at a time like this it can wait. We understand that dental offices are taking a monetary loss, so are a lot of businesses. Making money should not overrule keeping people safe when you are able to. Dentists are also very capable of giving prophylaxis (dental cleanings) to those who present. Dental hygienists are asking for more time. We are asking to not be forced to go back to work into the unknown. We are asking for someone to keep us safe. By signing this petition you are simply helping a high risk group of individuals to stay safe and keep their patients safe as well.
