Wisconsin Justice Initiative started this petition to Governor Tony Evers

The Problem:
Over 1 million Wisconsin voters said “yes” to the legalization of cannabis during last fall’s election. Yet cannabis remains illegal with the impact of marijuana stops, arrests and prosecutions falling disproportionately on people of color.

It is critical that Governor Tony Evers supports criminal justice reform and FULLY legalize cannabis and include FULL legalization in his 2019-21 budget proposal.

There are many reasons to support the FULL cannabis legalization including its medical value as an alternative to opiods; its economic potential for Wisconsin farmers and business; and the fact that Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Canada already have, or will be soon, fully legalizing cannabis.

But the most crucial aspect of FULL legalization is that it ends unjust police stops, arrests and prosecutions for cannabis. Regulated cannabis would put an end to life-altering interactions with the criminal justice system that harm people’s lives, while wasting taxpayer dollars in the process.

Why We Need Your Help:
The historic opportunity to FULLY legalize cannabis is now on the horizon in Wisconsin. After voters turned out in record numbers across the state to vote in support of cannabis, Governor Tony Evers declared his support for FULL legalization. He said he will include some form of legalization in his budget proposal.

The Ask...
Let's let Governor Evers know that we support FULL legalization by signing this petition. While Governor Evers alone cannot legalize cannabis alone, inclusion of the policy in his 2019-21 budget proposal will carry great weight.

Please sign this petition and let's send a message urging him to lead Wisconsin forward on this important issue!
