Great article in The Atlantic today about the white supremacist movement that built Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway during the 1910's. However, there is another side to this story that is painfully ironic and which few people comment on. The irony is that Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway, a road that honors a man who presided over a movement whose only mission was to preserve and expand slavery, was built in the 1910's by pseudo-slaves, chain gangs of mostly black men many of whom were wrongfully convicted and condemned to a grueling life of forced labor.
