On Friday, Senator Sweeney announced that he would amend S4204, and he gave assurances that freelance journalists wouldn't be affected. Unfortunately, many other industries besides Journalism will be negatively impacted--and the journalists we've spoken with will not back off on this issue just because they're being given a free pass. According to current workforce data, women, minorities and seniors are the groups that will feel the negative effects of this bill the most. Already, we are seeing companies back away from using NJ-based independent contractors, because they see us as a potential liability, given the way we are being relentlessly targeted. Please do not lose sight of the fact that this legislation continues to move forward, despite strong opposition.
