Keep 1p and 2p coins in Britain.

Keep 1p and 2p coins in Britain.
The Issue
Bank of England economists are considering scrapping 1p and 2p coins in the UK. They claim that this will not affect inflation. We were told this in 1971, the introduction of decimalisation, but prices rose considerably. They also claimed the same in 1984, with the abolition of the half penny, but all prices were raised upwards. This will surely be the case if our copper coins disappear. EVERY item will be rounded up to the nearest 5p, causing inflation. How long then until the 5p is a nuisance and everything is a multiple of 10? Pubs already deliberately price pints of beer with a 5p on the end, e.g.£3.35, so they can round up and charge £1.70 for a half. Keep our copper coins as they keep inflation in check and are a valuable source of income for charities. Please support this petition.
