While some people in Kashmir are busy and determined to turn #MeToo movement into a political battle, Free Press Kashmir has come up with this heartbreaking article on child sexual abuse and its link to substance abuse among survivors in Kashmir. (Please find the link to the article attached with this update.)

This article should be an eye opener for all of us. Being a survivor of child sexual abuse myself, I completely understand the pain the survivors of sexual abuse (especially child sexual abuse) go through.

A humble request to everyone in Kashmir and beyond, engaging in discussions on #MeToo movement: Please don’t use this very important and sensitive issue to score points against each other. It takes survivors a lifetime to speak up; however, the recent cat and mouse battles has done more damage than any good to the psyche of end number of survivors of sexual abuse in Kashmir, including myself. Anyone who wants to help survivors of sexual abuse must realise that one small mistake can ruin all hopes of survivors associated with this movement.

Let’s focus on the positives instead and try to reach out to more and more survivors out there. Let’s give every survivor a hope of better future. Let’s make it easy for survivors to speak up and help them to come out of isolation. Let’s try to find the root causes of this problem, instead of blaming each other. Let’s try to look for solutions and try to address the problem at its roots, once for all.

Please sharing my petition and if you have not signed yet, please do sign it. Half our problems will be solved, if our government understands the importance of 'Personal Safety Education' in schools.

Thank you and I look forward to your constant support.
