FROM CALIFORNIA LATINAS FOR REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE

Dear friend,

Join us for a virtual day of action on Wednesday, December 9th urging Governor Newsom to support the budget request to establish the Forced Sterilization Compensation Program.

On September 14th, news broke on the most recent state sponsored forced sterilizations at the Irwin ICE Detention Center in Georgia, bringing to light another blatant example of the many ways eugenic ideologies and practices continue to seep into state institutions across the country.

Here in California, we continue to fight for justice and the visibility of the over 20,000 people sterilized under California eugenics law - a third of eugenics sterilizations nationwide between 1909-1979 - and the hundreds of sterilization survivors from California women's prisons post 1979.

California must now lead in reckoning with its violent legacy. The time to #EndEugenicsLegacy in California and #CompensateSurvivors of forced sterilizations is NOW!

About The Forced Sterilization Compensation Program

Summary: The Forced Sterilization Compensation Program would compensate survivors who were forcibly sterilized in state institutions under California's eugenics law from 1909-1979 or who were subjected to coerced or involuntary sterilizations in women's state prisons after 1979.
