Women Against Mass Incarceration started this petition to GOVERNOR NED LAMONT and

#CLEMENCYWORKSCT is a statewide clemency campaign organized here in CT by Women Against Mass Incarceration (WAMI) and the Yale Undergraduate Prison Project (YUPP).

Women Against Mass Incarceration (WAMI) is a non-profit organization empowering formerly Incarcerated, trauma survived, justice-impacted women, girls, and families through advocacy, political education, and re-entry to end mass incarceration. Our efforts include (but are not limited to) reimagining communities through clemency work, panel discussions, participatory defense movement, mentoring, life coaching, advocacy, campaigns, family reunification, and more.

We are urging Connecticut's Governor Ned Lamont and the CT Board of Pardon and Parole to use their clemency power NOW to free Tracy Shumaker!

Tracy is the adoring mother of two sons, Steven and Alberton, and one daughter, Morgan. She is a supportive and loving sister and an encouraging and kind-hearted friend, peer, teacher, mentor, and support system to many women in York Correctional. Tracy is funny, witty, and positive, spreading joy and laughter to all those around her.

Tracy has spent her time incarcerated accomplishing incredible feats: she received her GED, an A.S. degree in General Studies and Science, and a Braille certification, which she uses to teach other women at York. Tracy is a teacher, a mentor, and a hard worker, leading groups on self-esteem and empowerment for women inside. She has made exceptional strides while incarcerated, and she deserves the chance to thrive even further while free.

As part of #ClemencyWorksCT, on behalf of Tracy and her loved ones, we are petitioning Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles to grant Tracy clemency. She has served 16 years of her 25-year sentence. It is time for her to come home because WOMEN AND GIRLS DO NOT BELONG IN CAGES!

By granting Tracy clemency, the Governor can grant her freedom with the stroke of a pen. Why do Governor Lamont and the Board of Pardons and Paroles refuse to show compassion? We demand freedom for our sister, Tracy Shumaker. #SAYHERNAME
