The Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System (GVDLS) facilities in Tifton and Athens exist to protect not only animal health, but also, human health. The GVDLS has been instrumental in identifying herd disease outbreaks, studying disease mechanisms, developing vaccines, and diagnosing all manner of illnesses and diseases in livestock and pets. Now, because of increased budget cuts over the last four years, the GVDLS is in jeopardy. The system is now threatened with the loss of laboratory sections which will, most likely, lead to the closure of one of the two labs.
