Select AETNA Better Health of Ohio as a Medicaid HMO
The Issue
Ohio is restructuring its managed care program and is in the process of awarding contracts to six insurance companies to manage benefits for the $20 billion Ohio Medicaid program (https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/04/09/biggest-contract-ohio-state-government-history-split-among-six-firms-medicaid-managed-care/4824528001/
Aetna Better Health did not make the cut even though most providers of home health care would agree that they are the most efficient, reliable and dedicated of all when it comes to service provision for MyCare Ohio patients. This procurement and contract award process occurred while providers were busy dealing with the pandemic, and as a result, most were not aware that this restructuring was occurring.
Aetna MyCare OH patients are assigned a case manager directly involved in the patient's care and in direct contact with the service provider to ensure that their care is patient-centered and well managed. As a provider, I cannot say the same thing occurs with other HMOs set to be awarded a contract. We, the undersigned, therefore, petition the state to reconsider this decision as it will significantly impact the service delivery of thousands if not millions of patients.
