Governor LePage and Maine Department Health and Human Services: Maine proposes elimination of MaineCare funds for Therapists
The effects of the trauma and violence the United States has witnessed, after incidents at Sandy Hook to more locally within the Maine population stuggling with mental and behavior disorders, mental illness, and substance abuse indicate the need of MORE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, not less. In addition, it is a misrepresentation in the Proposed Budget Cuts for 2013 only Licensed Clinical Social Workerss are able to treat those receiving Medicaid (our Mainecare) and Medicare health insurance. The State of Maine is cruelly misled in the proposed budget cuts for Mainecare announced for 2013. There will be NO EVIDENCE that eliminating Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists from reimbursement of therapeutic and behavioral services would SAVE the state of Maine money. Thousands of residents of Maine rely on the services of LCPCs and LMFTs. It is a crucial relationship for people struggling with Mental Health issues, disorders and disabilities to form professional relationships with providers. These funds would be arbitrarily removed from many people who would lose these necessary supports which would have an adverse effect on these at-risk-populations but also be devastating for many children &families in need.
