Let's save the earth and limit the use of plastic bags in CT
Why this petition matters
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, more than 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States each year. When not disposed of properly, they can end up in waterways and in forests, posing a threat to wildlife. An estimated 700 million plastic bags are used by Connecticut consumers each year. State Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Scott Jackson, stated that, “Everyone should go to a landfill and see what it looks like and you will see the impact of these plastic bags”. These plastic bags in our state are being abused for one-time use and are being left to harm our environment.
Although Connecticut has banned plastic bags, they haven’t actually “banned” the problem. The tax solution that they’ve placed for the plastic bags isn’t that effective. Many citizens living here don’t understand the importance of using reusable bags over the plastic ones. They don’t mind paying the small 10 cent charge that’s usually more convenient and less time consuming to them. A better solution would be to have stores only sell sustainable reusable bags. Using these reusable bags, reduces the amount of litter being wasted and does more good than harm.
This petition is here to help encourage the government and people living in Connecticut to cut down on the use of plastic bags. Please encourage your friends, family, and loved ones to sign this petition and look into other ways you can show your support.
