Get a Second Chance Act in Kansas and all states
The Issue
Our prisons across the nation are overcrowded. Our sentencing guidelines have become out of date. Life happens to people. Each person has a story. Circumstances cause actions. Are they an excuse? Absolutely not. And there are consequences for every persons actions. But the purpose of prison is to allow the individual to accept responsibility for his or her actions and pay the price. It is a time to change their hearts. When a time period of 10 to 15 years has passed often that individual is not the same person who committed the crime. Regardless of the crime. We are a nation based on God. At this we would have a elected judge and court to allow the individual to come before that Judge or elected court. Not appointed but elected. Then he or she or the court would look at this person. What have they done during their incarceration to prove or show their remorse and what actions have been taken to change the course of their life? Everyone deserves a second chance. Often a generational curse existed in a family but this family member can by publicly admitting his part in the crime and showing remorse and having taken the steps necessary to give him or her that second chance. This elected judge or court would have the power to grant a conditional release. If the individual were truly remorseful and truly had changed their hearts they would be more than willing to accept the terms no matter how strict they were. The individual would understand the gravity of their crime and understand they must earn back the trust that comes with release. If they are not willing to accept the terms then they are not ready for release. The individual would be responsible for assuming responsibility for demonstrating his change of heart after release and continue to report to the court until such a time as the judge or court deems appropriate. It is important this is an elected position. This avoids any party affiliations from influencing their decision. We are a democracy. We should be able to depend on our system of elected officials having the ability to be fair and impartial. Please Sign my petition so we can effectively fix this broken system and give individuals a reason to change. Give them hope. My husband is one of these people. He was born to a father who is sick. He was taught that real men behave a certain way and it caused him to do harm. Once incarcerated. Once the drugs and alcohol were gone and his head was clear he enrolled in a class that led to him behind chosen to have the chance to complete a seminary program. 16 men were chosen. Only six completed the opportunity. My husband was one. Since completing this he now ministers to other men helping them to see what their actions caused. Helping them accept full responsibility for their actions. Helping them stop the blame game and encouraging them to take steps to change the course if their lives. It is his way of making amends. His hope is to obtain a conditional release accepting any terms the judge or court would deem necessary so that he can pursue his ministry on the street. To along with me create a safe place for anyone to go to get help. A place where they won’t be judged but directed to a place where they can get help so crimes like his do not happen You see I was a victim. He was a victim but then the abuser so as a team we know both sides. We know there is hope for anyone who truly wants to change. They just need direction and support and unconditional love from a friend. Please sign this petition. Maybe Kansas can be an example for the rest of the states. Thank you for your time. Your prayers. Your support. We are not asking for donations. We know God is in control and He will give us a way as He has. Matthew chapter 7. Judge not lest he be judged. The A.S.K. Principal. Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall Find. Knock and the door shall be opened. God bless and keep you and thank you for your support if you believe in Second Chances.
