Governor Brown's office is currently in negotiations with the Department of Labor to get certification for billions of dollars in Federal Transit Administration grants. If the Department of Labor and the Governor's office cannot come to an agreement - Santa Barbara MTD will be forced to cut 30% of its bus service. That bus service is critical to thousands of transit dependent UCSB students! Don't let it be cut!
- California Governor
On behalf of student bus riders and riders all over California we ask that you speed up your negotiations with the Department of Labor and eliminate obstacles to California receiving billions of dollars in Federal Transit Administration grants. California needs a solution now! Without these grants our local public transit district, Santa Barbara MTD will be forced to make a 30% service reduction in early January. If this occurs this would equate to the elimination of four routes and reduced service on sixteen routes. Twenty out of the twenty-six routes in our district would be affected by these cuts. Employees of Santa Barbara MTD would be laid off – affecting our local economy. Access to the retail, food service, and hospitality industry for both workers and consumers would be reduced. In hard economic times with our state just beginning to recover, is it really wise to risk something potentially so devastating?
