A message from the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC): Right now, Congress is beginning to draft the 2023 Farm Bill. COVID-19 has shown that consolidation makes supply chains brittle, and that we must invest in our small and medium livestock processors to ensure our communities can get meat from the farm to the table, whether that table is in a family’s kitchen or at a local school, hospital or other community institution.
It’s essential that this Farm Bill include significant action to strengthen our local food systems, specifically by investing in very small to midsize livestock processors. Supporting the Strengthening Local Processing Act (SLPA) is the first step you can take to ensure the upcoming Farm Bill reinvests in our communities, small and medium livestock processors, and the diverse farmers they serve. SLPA (S.354/H.R. 945) will take steps to address processing infrastructure needs at the local, regional, state, and federal levels. It will expand technical assistance to small livestock processors, and increase potential options for regional and interstate trade for these livestock processors.
Take action today to support the Strengthening Local Processing Act.
1. Sign NSAC's letter to support SLPA and leave a quote to support the Act.

The Strengthening Local Processing Act (SLPA) will support livestock producers and processors by expanding their capacity to meet consumers' needs. Will you consider cosponsoring SLPA?"
