Aloha,
Since we began the petition, only 3 days ago, we've had an immense reaction from the general public with over 6,000 signatures and tons of comments as of this update. Thank you to everyone for helping to sign, spread the word as well as donate to get our message out there on the change.org platform. It is sincerely appreciated.
Since our last update, we've seen more news articles about crime and its current impact on our island homes. I've continually updated the petition with links to some of these articles and I invite you to read them. This is what we're trying to stop from getting worse. You'll find them at the bottom of the petition.
We also have a very powerful ally in Mayor Rick Blangiardi who was recently questioned during a presentation about his position on HB1567.
"I am very much against the cash bail reform bill that was passed by the state Legislature last week, and I'm urging Governor David Ige to do the right thing and veto it when it gets to his desk. This is not a good piece of legislation, and it flies in the face of every citizen or visitor who values public safety and family safety above all else!" - Mayor Rick Blangiardi
The Stolen Stuff Hawaii community would like to sincerely thank Mayor Blangiardi for his stance. We should be supporting victims, not criminals. We certainly hope that Govenor Ige will also take the same stance and wish you well on your discussions with him. Mahalo Mayor!
Everyday, I wake up to see crime after crime shared on our SSH media pages. Everyday citizens who have been victimized by criminals who continue to endanger the public and escalate due to the lack of serious accountability. It is truly heart braking to wake up to each day. We invite you to join SSH on Facebook or follow us on Instagram so you can also have an idea of what's happening in our communities. Just click the links.
In addition, tonight, on Facebook, we'll be holding an SSH Live with SHOPO as our guest to discuss the impact of HB1567 on law enforcement if it's signed into law. Feel free to join us for discussion and ask your questions. The live will be available to view in-group at 5:30PM (5/9/2022).
Now is the time to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and let your voices be heard. Please, I ask you to continue sharing our petition to your social media...to your family, friends and coworkers. Let's make a statement. Let's get to 10,000 signatures at the very least.
We'll be aiming to submit the petition as an initial salvo on Monday to the Office of the Governor with weekly follow-ups until the deadline for notice hits. Let's get it done. As always, be vigilant and aware.
Mahalo,
Michael Kitchens
