Remove Racist Todd Bruning from Michigan's Bedford Twp School Board
The Issue
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Todds Guns owner Todd Bruning is a danger to people of color and unfit to serve on the Bedford Twp School Board. He amplifies racist, misogynistic, dangerous and hateful rhetoric that has NO place in our community -- but ESPECIALLY not in our schools! We are doing everything we can to get him removed - but we need YOUR help.
For far too long, Bedford Twp in Michigan has been a place rife with hatred. Nowhere is this hatred more palpable than in our public school system. Students are harassed for their races, sexualities, and gender identities. Racist and homophobic slurs are heard all too frequently in the lunchroom, the hallway, and even the classroom. Each and every student should feel safe and protected at school: every student of color, every gay student, every transgender student, every female student. This simply cannot happen if a member of our school board is a prominent voice of hatred in the community. We have lost qualified, dedicated and loved school employees who were people of color due to the racist behaviors of this district -- it needs to change now!
The display of the Confederate flag all over his local business, a symbol of racism and the right to own slaves, is proof that Mr. Bruning does not stand up for the wellbeing of students of color. A brief scroll through his public Facebook page shows the deep disdain he holds for women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. When the media was contacted by angry residents last year, his response shows he has no plans to change his behavior and he truly believes he is doing nothing wrong: https://www.toledoblade.com/local/education/2019/09/06/bedford-school-board-todd-bruning-offensive-facebook-posts/stories/20190905015
If we want a school that supports all students, we need a school board that supports all students. As long as Todd Bruning is on our school board, that is simply not possible.
