Aloha friends,
I’m thrilled to share a major milestone in our effort to protect access to gender-affirming and reproductive healthcare in Hawai‘i.
HB1875 - the Gender Affirming & Reproductive Care Shield Law - has passed the Hawai‘i House of Representatives with a decisive vote of 45–6.
This outcome is extraordinary. Two Republican legislators voted in support, and only one Democrat voted in opposition - a strong bipartisan signal that protecting healthcare in Hawai‘i matters.
This bill protects:
- Patients and families receiving lawful care in Hawai‘i.
- Medical providers who follow established standards of care.
- Hawai‘i’s sovereignty from out-of-state political interference
And most importantly - this happened because of you.
Legislators specifically referenced the calls, emails, and testimony they received from community members. Your voices made a real impact.
Every message sent. Every phone call made. Every story shared.
Together, those actions helped move this bill across the House floor with strong support.
Mahalo for standing up for our community.
🌺 Take a moment to celebrate
Advocacy work can be exhausting, and victories like this deserve to be recognized.
Because people showed up with courage, compassion, and persistence, Hawai‘i has taken an important step toward protecting healthcare access.
Please take a moment to acknowledge how far we have come together.
➡️ What happens next
HB1875 now moves to the Hawai‘i State Senate.
The next step will be the announcement of Senate committee referrals. Once we know which committees will hear the bill, we will focus on securing hearings and continuing to share the same message that resonated in the House:
- Protect healthcare in Hawai‘i.
- Protect families and providers.
- Protect our state from outside interference.
I will share another update soon with the next steps.
💙 We are not done - but this is a big step forward
The House vote is a major milestone. Because of you, this bill is moving forward with real momentum. There is still work ahead in the Senate, but today we can take pride in what we have accomplished together.
Together we showed up. Together we moved lawmakers. And together we will continue this work.
With deep gratitude,
Abby Simmons (she/her)
