Governor Glenn Youngkin has taken steps to delay the early release of prisoners who were set to come home this summer. These people have completed their medical releases, taken photos for IDs from DMV, had their social security cards sent to them, assigned probation officers, and have their home plans set in stone. Some of them have been incarcerated for over twenty years.

They’ve been verified to fit the criteria previously set forth. They are model inmates and have a release date in the next twelve months. This amended bill is not necessary. We need to stop this from happening. What will change in a few months? If they’re not released next month, they’ll be released in a few months so how will this change anything?

My mother is one of those people. My mother has been incarcerated since 1997. We have prepared for her release in the short time we were given after being told she would come home. We’ve made arrangements for her to be employed immediately upon release. She just had a grand baby this month and a family reunion we had scheduled for August she should be in attendance for.

We were given such great news just for it to be snatched away by this Governor. It's also important to note that VA has the lowest recidivism rate in the country. These people are ready to be contributing community members again. Please sign this petition because they deserve to come home. They have served their time and as I said, already fit the initial criteria. This bill should be repealed.
