Staffing Recruitment and retention challenges due to cost of living for CSD-F

Staffing Recruitment and retention challenges due to cost of living for CSD-F
The Issue
We, the undersigned representing the California Deaf Community, are seriously concerned about maintaining the high quality of education at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont (CSD-F) and the excellent staff. Despite CSD-F's fine reputation, the school has serious difficulty recruiting and retaining qualified staff due to the high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area. We support the long-term solution of building staff housing on an available state-owned parcel of land on the CSD-F campus. This housing would provide limited-time, low-cost housing for new and current staff to have time to save for a downpayment on their permanent housing.
We ask the California Department of Education and the State of California to release and permit the parcel of land on the CSD-F campus to build staff housing at no cost to the State.
