A Call to Build an Evelio B Javier Museum in San Jose, Antique

A Call to Build an Evelio B Javier Museum in San Jose, Antique
The Issue
"The distinction between a victim and a martyr is this: the tyrant crushes his victim by sheer power, like you would crush an ant. The martyr, however, triumphs over the tyrant by his spirit. Evelio was not a victim of the Marcos regime, he was a martyr of Filipino freedom. He triumphed, and not the gunmen who shot him down." -Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, Archbishop of Paris (Paris, France) 1986
"If the murder of Ninoy Aquino shocked the world, and it did, the murder of Evelio was the straw that broke the camel’s back. In rapid succession, at this funeral Mass at the Ateneo soccer field on Friday night, Father Jose Cruz read the Bishops’ Letter against the elections. The effect on the crowd was electrifying. Next came the defection, or, if you wish, the conversion (sic) of Mr. Enrile and General Ramos. The script was complete. It was a script that began in blood and ended in triumph. A nation revolted against brute force and wanted freedom. At great cost, brute power lost and the spirit won out. The power of the Marcos regime was defeated by the spirit of Evelio Javier." - Fr Richard J. Cronin, S.J., Gov Javier's college professor at ADMU in a sermon at the Memorial Mass for Evelio B Javier at St. Mary’s Church, Jersey City (New Jersey, USA) on Sunday, March 16, 1986.
It is a historical hard fact that the assassination of the late Gov. Evelio B. Javier was one of the causes of the People Power Revolution that freed the Philippines from 20 years of entrenched plunder, wanton killings of political enemies, and widespread poverty. Yet for 36 years since his death, no decent museum has been established to honor his sacrifices.
We call on government officials and institutions to provide for a proper homage by way of a construction and management of the:
"EVELIO “Beloy” B. JAVIER Museum: The Shrine of Freedom And Democracy in the Philippines"
This campaign wishes to enjoin ALL FILIPINOS who subscribe to Beloy's pursuit of democratic freedom, servant and shared leadership, and love for country to sign this campaign and help us reach significant number of signatures so that our voices may be heard.
It is high time we act on this much-delayed proper recognition of the hero whose courageous spirit still enlivens us when confronted with threats or coercion from traditional politicians 36 years after his death. We can tap our individual courage because Beloy first showed us how.
And lastly, we wish to embed his wisdom by the facade of the museum: "Ang pwesto sa gobyerno, bukut burugasan, bukut paranubliun." -EBJ 1986 (Translation: “A government position should not be for profit nor for inheritance.")
Please sign the petition and let this be our gift to Evelio B Javier's life of service and sacrifice, a life fully lived. Thank you.
